Easy-to-use, in-house test kit, providing rapid, accurate results to aid in the diagnosis of respiratory disease in cats due to feline calicivirus and/or feline herpesvirus (‘cat flu’).

Test type: Immunochromatographic assay

Test target:

• Feline calicivirus (FCV) antigen
• Feline herpesvirus (FHV) antigen

Appropriate sample types (obtained via swab):

• Ocular secretions
• Nasal fluid
• Saliva

Sensitivity (quantifies a test’s ability to identify true positives):

• FCV antigen: 97.00%
• FHV antigen: 96.00%

Specificity (quantifies a test’s ability to identify true negatives):

• FCV antigen: 99.20%
• FHV antigen: 98.33%

Results available: 5-10 minutes*

Clinical notes:

• Positive results should be further confirmed with PCR testing and/or other appropriate diagnostic methods.
• Clinical signs should always be considered alongside test results when making a diagnosis.
• Test may give a false positive result in animals that have received a live attenuated vaccination containing the test target within the 10 days prior to samples being collected.
• Test may give a false positive result in animals treated with monoclonal antibodies specific to the test target.
• Test may give a false positive result in animals treated with monoclonal antibodies specific to the test target.
